Asphalt demand in China to increase 6% annually by year 2010

Mumbai, March 5, 2007: According to a new report distributed by Mumbai based consultants Bharat Book Bureau titled “Asphalt in China forecasts to 2010 & 2015” , the asphalt market in China has expanded to around 12.5 per cent per year during the last decade and has topped 12.3 million metric tones in the year 2005.

The report says that demand increases will continue to outspace the world asphalt market, rising 6.0 per cent annually through 2010 to over 16 million metric tones. This is due to the robust growth in the booming construction industry in China.

Accordingly, the demand for asphalt in paving applications is projected to register robust gains through the future years. Among the different types of asphalt paving products, the demand for emulsified asphalt will benefit from increasing use in maintenance and repair applications, and will post the best gains through the years 2010.

The report also mentions that non-building construction will remain the largest as well as the fastest growing market for asphalt products, benefiting from the country’s ambitious road construction plan, which reflects the government’s efforts to improve the country’s infrastructure.

As the construction activities post strong gains, asphalt demand will increase, particularly in the office, commercial and industrial segments, and non-residential building activity will boost the demand for asphaltic roofing, like built-up roofing and modified bitumen membranes, as well as for asphalt paving products used in driveways and parking lots.

Although China is a single nation, it is further sub-divided into regional markets, which is characterized by different economies, cultures and languages. The regions of Central-East as well as Central-South will remain home for the major population and will continue to be the biggest regional asphalt markets in China through the years 2010.China offers tremendous potential in asphalt products and international producers and distributors recognize this potential that China offers. This particular study on the Chinese asphalt industry presents historical data pertaining to asphalt demand including forecasts to 2010 and 2015 by product type and market.  In addition, it also includes regional breakouts for major market categories, presents the company market share data and profiles leading players in the Chinese asphalt industry.
