original source document. Consequently, this field
may contain US or British spellings, abbreviations,
etc. Allow for spelling variants and synonyms in
searching this field.

Affiliation, AF=
A correspondence
address of the author as given in the source
document. The author(s) to which the address refers
is marked with '{a}'.
Accession Number,
AN=
A unique identifier
for the record.
Author, AU=
Author names are
provided as given in the original source document.

Descriptors, DE=
Any term can be
searched as natural language or free text, but
unless the term is selected from the controlled
vocabulary, it is recommended to also include
synonyms and variants in the search.
Search tip: To
improve precision, link search terms together in the
command line search using the WITHIN50 operator, or
the NEAR operator which finds terms within 10 words
of each other.

FC=
The Format Covered
field contains terms describing the medium in which
the source document was originally published and
which was viewed for indexing. Possible values

ISBN, IB=
The International
Standard Book Number. Use this in preference to the
book title, etc. to locate a specific book
publication.
ISSN, IS=
The International
Standard Serial Number. Use this in preference to
the Serial title, etc. to locate records from a
specific journal publication.
Journal Name, JN=
This is the serial
title. There are two ways to search for a journal
name:

Plus; enter a name or the beginning of a name in the
Find box; click the Display button and select from
the resulting display.
Option 2 - Enter the
unique word(s) directly in the query box.

Includes Title (TI=),
Abstract (AB=), Descriptors (DE=), Systematics (SY=),
and Supertaxa (SX=)
Language, LA=
The language of the
main body of the source document.
Notes, NT=
The Notes field
contains miscellaneous bibliographic information,
such as details of translations, collaborating
authors' additional unpaginated plates and
illustrations, etc.
Original Title,
OT=
The original language
title as provided in the source document. This
allows easier identification of items when
requesting reprints from document suppliers. As the
field is specific to the ZR Plus database, it
should be searched using the Command-Line Search
function in the Advanced Search form.
Publication Type,
PT=
Indicates the type of
literature item indexed. One or more of the
following terms can appear in this field to describe
the item:

The year the item was
originally published.
Source, SO=
Contains the serial
title and bibliographic reference to the original
item. For book the publisher and place of
publication is also shown. Book Chapter records
include the editor and overall book title.
Summary Language,
SL=
The language(s) of
the summary(ies) of the original item. An English
language Abstract is always provided in the Abstract
(AB=) field.
Systematics, SY=
Contains the genus
and specis name for any animal discussed in the
item. Any taxanomic changes such as new species, new
systematics, etc. are also shown in this field.
These terms are searchable in Advanced mode by
selecting systematics, SY=, from the field drop
list, or in the command mode by entering sy=term:
Supertaxa, SX=
Contains the most
recent taxonomic hierarchy associated with any
animal names discussed in the item. The hierarchy
usually begins with the class and includes taxa
names down to the family level.
Title, TI=
Contains the title of
the original document. From Volume 133 (1997)
forward, the TI field provides an English title of
the original document, enclosed in brackets, if
translated by BIOSIS and titles may also appear in
English (British and US spelling), French, Spanish
(including Catalan), German, Portuguese, Italian, or
Latin. Titles in languages other than these are
translated into English using British spelling and
are enclosed in square brackets.
Taxa Notes, TN=
Contains common names
of broader groups of animals. Terms which appear in
