The probiotics in animal feed market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 7.7%

The probiotics in animal feed market is valued at USD 3.25 billion in 2016, and projected to grow at a CAGR of 7.7%, to reach USD 5.07 billion by 2022. The market is primarily driven by factors such as growing awareness about animal health among customers, rising demand for nutrient-rich feed for animals, increasing demand for quality animal products and initiatives undertaken by the government and regulatory bodies to increase consumer awareness. One of the major restraints in the growth of the probiotic in animal feed is the time required for regulatory approval.

Bacteria probiotics in animal feed source segment to drive the growth of the market

On the basis of source, the probiotics in animal feed market was led by the bacteria. Health benefits such as increased lactase production, prevention of diarrhea, prevention of irritable bowel syndrome, and enhanced immunity of Lactobacilli make the bacterial strain most preferred option by animal feed producers. The growth of bacteria in probiotics is attributed to their increased use in animal feed as due to their potential to replace antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs).

Dry form probiotics in animal feed at the highest CAGR through 2022

On the basis of form, the dry as segment led the growth of the probiotics in animal feed market growing at the fastest CAGR from 2017 to 2022. The moisture content of liquid probiotics results in uncontrolled culturing which affects the quality of feed products. This makes dry probiotics a suitable ingredient for processed feed products, making it the preferred form for feed manufacturers. Factors such as ease of handling, convenient storage, and easier transportation have been increasing the demand for the dry form of probiotics in animal feed.

Poultry livestock accounted to be the largest market share of probiotics in animal feed in 2016

Based on Livestock, the poultry segment has largest share during the forecasted period. Due to the rapidly increasing demand for poultry meat in developing regions such as Asia-Pacific and South America has strengthened the demand for probiotics to increase poultry productivity.

Asia-Pacific: High growth is expected in the probiotics in animal feed segment

Asia-Pacific is projected to be the fastest-growing market for the period considered for this study. Factors such as large livestock base, high meat consumption and increasing consumer awareness about the positive impact of probiotics on animal health are driving the Asia-Pacific market.
