The spinal implant market is considered by many to be the most exciting and controversial segment of the orthopedics industry.

Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) methods are frequently used for implanting traditional spinal implant devices, such as interbody devices and pedicle screws.

Rapid growth is expected in all segments of the Asia-Pacific minimally invasive spinal implant market as a result of the physiological and surgical advantages of MIS procedures over open procedures. MIS spine procedures are expected to maintain double-digit growth rates through the forecast period, while the MIS spine market value will grow at a slower rate due to declining prices.

The Asia-Pacific and Emerging minimally invasive surgery (MIS) spinal device market is published in two separate reports. The Asia-Pacific report includes Australia, Japan and South Korea. The Emerging report includes China and Taiwan.

Each report comprises two main segments: MIS thoracolumbar fixation and MIS interbody fusion. The former represents approximately 68% of the total market and is expected to grow rapidly through the forecast period due to China’s explosive growth. The latter was valued at over $36 million in 2013, a smaller size because cages are not necessarily indicated for all fusion procedures and they tend to be more affordable than a set of percutaneous pedicle screws.
