The textile industry can be classified into two segments based on fibres consumed – natural and man-made fibre. The textile industry is one of the largest and the most important sectors for the Indian economy in terms of output, foreign exchange earnings and employment.

Globally, Man Made Fibre (MMF) is the most dominantly consumed textile fibre with the share of about 65 per cent. In India, cotton is the predominant consumed fibre; however its share in total fibre consumption has declined from 75 per cent in FY01 to 65 per cent in FY12. Over the years, this natural fibre has lost its share to MMF, mainly on account of the uncertainty in the availability of cotton and growing popularity of the polyester.

The domestic consumption of MMF remained subdued in FY13 and registered a decline by 7 per cent on a YoY basis due to slowdown in industrial output and the overall macroeconomic scenario. Under this scenario, many questions arise like, what will be the demand growth of the MMF industry in the next 3-4 years? How is the demand of polyester and viscose going to pan out in the future? What will be the share of MMF in the overall fibre consumption by the country? The report seeks to answer the above issues and CARE Research’s views on the same.

CARE Research's report on the ‘Indian Man-Made Fibre Industry’ contains comprehensive data garnered through well-established network of primary and secondary sources and detailed analysis of the industry. The report provides analysis on key segments such as polyester and viscose with focus on demand and supply scenario, production and capacity utilization, raw material analysis, domestic pricing scenario etc. Also, the report provides CARE Research’s outlook on the demand growth of MMF industry covering sub-segments.

The report is indispensable for any company in textile/MMF industry, banks/ FIs, policy makers, research & academic organizations, other international and national agencies, etc. Additionally, the monthly updates accompanying the subscription of this report would form a potent tool for the subscribers to keep abreast of the happenings in the industry.
