We believe the water sector in spain is in good shape though perhaps offers more advantages
to heavy water using industries than those companies involved in infrastructure and water
management. Overall, water supplies and sanitation in Spain are of a high quality and water tariffs are
amongst the lowest across the E.U. However there is a great deal of disparity between regions with regards
to water availability.
The North of Spain has plentiful freshwater due to the Mountainous terrain and the large rivers such as the
Ebro. The Southern areas of Spain are blighted by droughts and have turned towards saltwater reverse
osmosis desalination plants to supply the population of the area with Water. Approximately 20% of treated
wastewater in Spain is being reused for Irrigation and Industry.
