Fresh Fruits can help lower the risk of Diabetes by 12%

Diabetes, the word itself is enough to give anyone chills. Understandably so as there is no cure for the condition. One can take preventive measure to stop it from developing or take cautionary procedures to keep it under control once you have it. Diabetes is one of the most common disease around the world. Diabetes is a group of metabolic diseases in which there are high blood sugar levels over a prolonged period.

There are two types of diabetes, type 1 and type 2. In type 1, the immune system attacks and destroys cells in the pancreas responsible to produce insulin which results in no insulin production. Type 2 diabetes is when your body cannot produce required insulin on its own and canít use it optimally. To contain diabetes you have to keep a healthy diet, exercise and take prescribed medications. A recent study now suggests that consuming fresh fruits on a daily basis can result in better defence against diabetes.

The study conducted by the Oxford University team collaborating with Chinese universities and institutes monitored an estimated 500,000 people in China over the span of seven years. The study accomplished that one can decrease the chances of developing diabetes by 12% if they include fresh fruits in their diets daily. The study also found that if already diabetic patients consumed the same, are less likely to be affected by health complications due to diabetes against those who never or rarely ate fresh fruits.

The popular myth in people is that fruits may do more harm than good in case of diabetes due to the natural sugar in it, but the study suggests otherwise. According to the researchers, health education needs to be advanced around the world especially the countries where diabetes is more prevalent to bust. Fruits such as Apples, Grapes, Pomegranates, berries, Guava etc are considered ideal for people having diabetes.Most effective way to prevent or manage diabetes is to maintain healthy weight and keep yourself physically fit.
