Extensive lockdowns in the country’s two biggest states, New South Wales and Victoria, negatively impacted on-trade sales of alcoholic drinks, especially in Q3 2021. However, this was somewhat mitigated by the reopening of bars and restaurants, albeit with capacity limits, in Q4, the festive season when the consumption of alcoholic drinks is traditionally high. As a result, drinks specialists and consequently e-commerce, recorded strong growth due to disruptions to the on-trade channel.
