The Indian automobile industry is in for some good news as the car sales have witnessed a gross increase for the 14th time in a row. The newest numbers on the sales chart are ought to bring smiles to the auto industry bosses as the sale of domestic cars has surged upto 12.87% (13% to round off) in the month of December,2015. This somewhat was expected as the December is a celebrating one just alike the rest of the globe. There are heavy discounts offered and several other schemes such as the ‘exchange mela’ on used vehicles where customers are encouraged to upgrade to a version or a better model which is the largest offering in the Indian car market.
Bring on the numbers-
Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has put up the positive numbers for last December which were 172,671 units; wherein the same was 152,986 units in 2014 for the same month. In totality, the passenger vehicle segment sales stood at 230,960 against 209,086 units, calculated to be a rise of 10.46% on an annual basis.
The growth curve for a longer span (April-December 2015) was always noted to be on a positive side as it worked around 2.27%. On a more particular basis the car sales for the entire calendar year grew upto 9.8% to 2034,015 units; this was a part of the 2772,745 units of passenger vehicles sold for the year-at a growth rate of 7.86%.
Looking at the current scenario, the automotive market growth rate is expected to be around 6 to 8% for the moment and in the future experts assume it to touch around 10% or even go beyond it.
Company wise numbers-
Maruti Suzuki India-the largest automobile maker of the country posted a growth percentile of 13.48% in the passenger vehicle section; wherein its car sales rose by 12% to 91,043 units in the festive period. Its biggest rival Hyundai Motors India posted a record increase of its passenger vehicle segment up by 41,861 units; this was calculated to be up by a whopping 29% and credited largely to the timely launch of its SUV brand Creta in the country. The car sales chart for the South Korean company grew by 14.4% to 37, 101 units.
There were even few makers who had to face the downside like Honda which dipped by 1.51% in comparison to the numbers since last year for the same period. The Indian automaker Tata motors had to carry the biggest dent as the brand suffered a big blow of going down by more than 30% as it merely managed to sell 6,900 units during the season.

The two wheeler section of the Indian auto market has a different story to cry upon as most of them posted a loss. Scooter sales witnessed a continuing downfall of 3.12% wherein brand wise Hero MotoCorp enjoyed a 10.74% hike with 82,517 units sold for the period. The age old Chennai based two-wheeler company TVS Motor is seen as the sole winner in the industry as it posted the best figures for the season with an increase of around 18% with a record 62,173 units sold.
Once the king of Indian two-wheeler market Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) lost a big share of its dominance as it was took home a straight market value decline of 16.77% and posted a sales number below 100,000 units for the year after a long stretch of successful sales run. It managed a sales number of 92,280 units against 110,884 units in December 2014.
However, the gross market for two-wheelers went down by 3.10% for December 2015.
